5K Halloween and Monster Mile
The sun was barely awake as ghosts and goblins, clowns and emoji’s started their stretching to prepare for the Second Annual Halloween 5k and Monster Mile Saturday morning. The Jeff Rouse Center and Embrey Mill sponsored the race with 377 registered racers. Moms, dads and kids tightened up their shoelaces, pinned their race bibs and waited at the starting line to begin this year’s races. For the 209 adult racers the route began at the Rouse center and weaved throughout the second phase of Embrey Mill. The Monster Mile did a round trip on Mine Road with 139 kids. Those who did not run cheered from the sidelines while sipping hot coffee. Children were able to get their faces painted with unicorns and stars. CPR instruction by Gwyneth’s Gift Foundation was also onsite for those who wanted a quick lesson on how to save a life. The race wrapped up with awards being handed out to the top runners. The overall winner of the 5k was Kathryn Harrison at 18:07! Way to go Kathryn! Thank you to all the volunteers that made this event a great success as well as the Stafford County Fire and Rescue for taking part to ensure safety.
